Dear Wisconsin Humanities Family, Supporters, and Friends,
Earlier this spring, you stood with Wisconsin Humanities like never before. In the midst of a whirlwind of challenges—losing federal funding, making the painful decision to lay off valued colleagues, giving up our office, and pausing beloved programs like our award-winning Community Powered training and Love Wisconsin, and our grant program—you showed up. Our Wisconsin Humanities family gave us strength during one of the hardest seasons in our history.
Thanks to you, we are beginning a new chapter.
Starting in September, Wisconsin Humanities is hitting the road to hold Listening Sessions across the state. These gatherings will allow us to hear directly from you—your hopes, your ideas, and your stories—so we can rebuild and reimagine a future for the humanities that is rooted right here in Wisconsin.
The goals of the Listening Sessions are simple but vital:
- Identify community strengths, priorities, and opportunities for real impact
- Inform our board as we shape the next chapter of Wisconsin Humanities
- Build a network among our supporters that feeds your local efforts and is a collective voice for the humanities in Wisconsin
But we can’t do this without you.
Your gift today will help us travel the state in person and virtually, gathering ideas and turning what we learn into action. With your support, we’ll not only listen—we’ll lead. Together, we’ll ensure that the public humanities remain alive, vibrant, and accessible to every Wisconsinite.
Times are challenging, but your generosity has already proven what we can accomplish together. Will you make a gift today to fuel this next step? Every donation—no matter the size—brings us closer to a future where Wisconsin Humanities continues to inspire connection, conversation, and understanding.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Your support gives us hope, courage, and the ability to listen deeply to our communities. We can’t wait to hear what you have to say.
With gratitude and in friendship,

Dena Wortzel
Executive Director, Wisconsin Humanities
