Training for you!Our Director of Community Powered, Chrissy Widmayer, has returned to Wisconsin Humanities to restart the nationally award-winning training program she was instrumental in creating! This great news is possible thanks to a partnership with the Center for the Study of Upper Midwestern Cultures at UW-Madison, where Chrissy is also a postdoctoral fellow in Nordic Folklife. Thanks to the partnership with CSUMC, Chrissy is collaborating with Nordic American organizations to offer Community Powered workshops that teach practical humanities skills like oral history interviewing, while her research looks at how Community Powered workshops build organizations’ capacity, connections, and community. The first workshops will take place online through the Norwegian American Genealogical Center and Naeseth Library. They will teach how to document and share family stories using tools like interviewing, storytelling, folklore, and archiving. Want to join a workshop on Zoom? See descriptions and register. Stay tuned for more news on Community Powered’s return, including updates on the Community Powered Tribal Health Initiative, and more workshops to come! |
When our friends at Wisconsin Public Radio came to us with a great new idea -- radio essays that share slices of life in Wisconsin -- we knew we wanted to be a part of it. That was well over a decade ago and Wisconsin Life has been going strong ever since! In this episode of Human Powered, co-hosts Jessica Becker and Jen Rubin talk with longtime collaborator and award-winning Wisconsin Life radio producer, Maureen McCollum. They get to the heart of what makes the Wisconsin Life radio segments unique and why that matters today. Enjoy listening to McCollum share about listeners’ love for Wisconsin food stories, including the “polarizing” but wildly popular deep dive into Cannibal Sandwiches. Hear hints at what’s to come for Wisconsin Life. Join us for this and conversation and more, with new episodes released every two weeks.
